Remote Desktop Web Access XSLT Notice

Incident Report for Dartmouth College

Monitoring

Remote Desktop Web Access may not load in Chrome and Edge starting mid-November

What’s happening:

Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge are removing support for a web technology called XSLT starting around November 17, 2026. Our Remote Desktop Web Access portal (rds.dartmouth.edu) relies on XSLT. When a browser no longer supports XSLT, the portal may fail to load. This is an industry-wide browser change, and not specific to RDS.

Microsoft has acknowledged the issue (KB5130994) and is working on a fix, but has not announced a release date.

Who is affected:
Anyone who opens the RDS portal in Chrome or Edge once the change reaches their browser. Firefox and Safari are not affected at this time. Firefox has announced plans to remove this technology in the future. We currently have no information regarding Safari, but removal of XSLT support from Safari in the future is likely.

What you can do now
Use Firefox or Safari to open the RDS portal until Microsoft releases a server-side fix.
