ITC will be installing routine firmware and updates on the Dell PowerScale system which provides network file services to the campus. This includes OurFiles, DartFS, ThayerFS, and others.
A complete list of the affected SMB file servers is available at https://services.dartmouth.edu/TDClient/1806/Portal/KB/ArticleDet?ID=150117 .

If you wont be using these SMB file servers during the maintenance window then you can safely stop reading.

These updates are non-disruptive for NFS clients (e.g. all Linux systems managed by Thayer and Research Computing). However, active SMB clients (e.g. Mac and Windows computers) WILL experience one or more disconnections similar to what you would see when there is a network problem. Usually, SMB clients will reconnect automatically after a few seconds but sometimes users may need to reconnect manually. Macs are especially susceptible to needing manual reconnection.

We will post an update here when the work is complete.
